Grandma's Cocoa Cookies

By Marie Weiler

Grandma's cookies are a true delight,

Especially when one has frostbite.

There are no other treats like them, of this I am sure;

For this delicious addiction there is no known cure.

Grandma makes her cookies with lots of cocoa,

And even adds in some things that we don't know.

When she starts rolling the dough into odd shapes and sizes,

She uses a tiger for me and an ape for Liza’s.

As she sets the stove at three hundred fifty degrees,

Grandma hears nothing but all her young grandchildren’s pleas.

To smell the mouth-watering chocolate bake,

Can cause your patience to almost always break.

She hangs up her apron on the door,

Then sweeps that which has spilled on the floor.

Believe me, cocoa can be a disaster,

When one is trying to clean it up after.

As the cookie dough is formed and figured,

It is then each child’s taste buds are triggered.

Once she takes them out from within the warm oven,

All us children are a pushin’ and a shovin’.
